These are architectural and urban public experiences, previously investigated by design, which take place with the participants in places of free enjoyment and with the experimental use of different materials.  One of the most important points of these workshops are the projects, because through them the narrative of fruition and experimentation is elaborated. In this way, the sketch drawings aim to observe and propose ways of use and possible relationships between people and spaces.

These actions aim to collaborate with the discussion about the importance of public spaces in cities.  So far Sophia Novaes has already carried out actions in the city of São Paulo, in places such as the Lasar Segall Museum-IBRAM, Jardim da Cidade Universitária-USP Butanta  and Ombudsman Occupation 63.

Lesson plan for application of the project in schools

THEME : Public workshops

AUDIENCE: Children from 4 to 7 years old

OBJECTIVE: To produce artistic works, using different possibilities of languages and exploring the natural textures of objects and materials; Making an artistic work from their (spatial) perceptions of the world; Recognize the intersections between art and public space.

CONTENTS: Exploration and deepening of the possibilities offered by the different materials, instruments and supports necessary for the artistic making; Exploration of the natural space in the realization of their artistic projects; Appreciation of their productions and those of others, through observation and reading of some of the elements of plastic language.

LOCATION: Outside spaces of the school, such as gardens, vegetable gardens, patios or other outdoor spaces.

METHODOLOGY OF PEDAGOGICAL ACTION: The class will be held outside the classroom, and this exit is necessary for the effective application of the activity. The proposal is, in an interdisciplinary way, to understand the role of the studio for the visual artist. Before the moment of departure, a project of the actions to be developed will be carried out together, the choices of materials, so that the students already have proximity to the techniques that will be developed in the activity. For the development of the class, different materials will be needed that can be chosen directly with the students: paints, brushes, crayons, sheets of paper, tree leaves, string, cardboard boxes, plastic, etc.

ACTIVITY PLAN

1st moment: At the beginning, in a conversation circle, the teacher will present some images of famous artists' studios, explaining to the students what studios are and their importance as a workspace, explaining that, at the same time, that some artists developed their work within spaces, others created works in open spaces from (the perceptions of nature) (from the observation of the way people relate to the spaces of cities). (It is suggested that the group carefully observe the place, thinking about aspects such as: is it a place they usually stay or  just pass quickly? what's in this place? Are there benches to sit... garden? what things do you usually do there? how put  ex: playing, running and waiting.) Then, he will provoke the students to talk (what would it take to make a workshop in that place), what would be the items that would appear in their own studio, using at that moment the project planning images made by the artist Sophia Novaes. It will be necessary to write down all the items described by the students, performing the screening of their possibilities and availabilities.

2nd moment: Then, on another day and after collecting all the material, the students will be taken to an open-air space at the school (and preferably exclusive for carrying out the activity): patio, vegetable garden, garden, etc. . In this space, they will help in the organization of materials and, with the teacher's mediation, they must seek inspiration for 1 hour to create an artistic object - painting, drawing, sculpture, installation. After the end of the activity, all material must be collected and stored.

3rd moment: After returning to the classroom, the students will again be arranged in a circle and the teacher will provoke a discussion about participation in the process, their main questions, perceptions, etc. After this discussion, the class can plan an exhibition with the items made.

After the class, if you want, share your experience with us through the emails contato@artistaslatinas and  sophiadenovaes@usp.br
