"

“With her features, Aline Lemos promotes an important and necessary meeting of women who questioned the notion of “artistic genius” and resisted speeches that insisted on restricting them to the domestic environment, reducing them to the condition of “naturally amateur” artists. When presenting the biographies, without deviating from the impasses of delimitation of borders and hierarchies between the arts – and the marks of class, race, ethnicity and region – Lemos underlines the importance of the production of art made by (these) women. At the same time, it points out the relevance of the discourses produced by (these) artists to think about culture and society, although not all of them have assumed an explicit feminist stance. Without falling into the naivety of presenting such an edition as definitive, but assuming the goal of lending us a taste for the historiographical excavation of more artists, this book is an invitation to suspect the way history is told and to position ourselves in the face of political erasure. of the women."
